BEFORE YOU BEGIN

A few helpful answers.

Who uses Schedule C?

Generally, a sole proprietor reports the profit or loss of a business or profession on Schedule C. Use a separate schedule for each separate business. Partnerships generally file Form 1065.

Which tax years are available?

The final 2025 original is available. The 2026 edition will be offered when the final original is available; a draft is not substituted.

Which amounts are calculated?

The builder calculates net receipts, cost of goods sold, gross income, total expenses and profit or loss. Eligible standard mileage uses 70¢ per business mile. Enter already deductible amounts for other categories, including meals after applicable limits.

What changed on Lines 27a and 27b?

The 2025 original uses 27a for the energy-efficient commercial building deduction from Form 7205 and 27b for itemized other expenses from Line 48. These amounts remain separate.

Does the home-office amount calculate from square footage alone?

No. Enter the allowed result from Form 8829 or the official simplified-method worksheet, including applicable eligibility, income and area rules. Do not duplicate home-office costs in other expense categories.

Is every calculated loss deductible?

No. The schedule reports its calculated loss, but at-risk, passive-activity and excess-business-loss rules may limit the amount deductible on the main return. If some investment is not at risk, Form 6198 is required separately.

What about statutory employees?

Check the original Line 1 box for applicable W-2 statutory-employee income. Do not automatically treat it as ordinary self-employment income. The instructions require separate schedules for statutory and regular self-employed activities.

Do I sign this schedule?

Schedule C has no separate signature line. Attach it to the main return and follow that return’s signing and filing instructions.

What does the price include?

$9.99 USD covers one complete two-page Schedule C PDF, with private access after checkout. The main return, filing and required additional forms are separate.
